Hi Pete. Treatmaker's on Long Island, and I'm in Central NY.

She has a great guy that works on her Chambers, but I'm in the middle of nowhere, so it's all DIY. You could do the same, I think.

Thanks jenn...We're in Branford, CT just outside of New Haven on the shore. I'll be doing most of the restoration project myself. I'm like everybody else here on this site, a little envious of lowracers new rechromed top. It's a beautiful job he had done and right now I'm figuring out a way to get it there with out the damage! Oh well, it's gonna be a long term project anyway so I was kinda looking for anybody else that was going to or is in process of doing the same. Just seeing if there was anybody local around here for the reporcelain, thermo rebuilding and safety valve installation. Somebody who already might have been through it. Stuff that's out of my league. I'll be posting pics of our "Dottie" in the next couple of days on the Virtual Convention board. Annnt has already seen them and shes sending me a bunch of literature she has on the stove. We've both got 48-49 BZ's! Thanx for your reply and input...Pete

Anybody on this board from the east coast? I see most of you guys come are from the great state of Texas or out in the mid west. I'd like to know of anybody around here and what and where they've been finding other stoves, parts, sevice people and stuff close by me. Thanks, Pete

Well, you're in the right place here. Stick around long enough and you'll find all the sources you need, except maybe a local shop. They're hard to come by, but if you're willing to ship, then the sky's the limit! there's Gigi for porcelain, Lowracer's contact for chrome, Stoveman Sam for the thermostat rebuilding, Todd or Stoveman for literature, and on and on.

Dottie's in good company here.

Here's Big Bertha's journey.
She was in pretty good shape except filthy and nasty. Heck she's over 60+ years so she needed some extreme cleaning and polishing inside and outside. After seeing Mark's Mrs. Adam's reporcilian, I'll be sending Big Bertha's drip pans and grates. That should be it. We did have Big Bertha's top reporcelian and the handles and latches rechromed. It is so worth it in the end!!
Be sure to get your service manual before you begin!! A big must for owners!!

Good luck and keep us posted!!

I'm not from the east coast and not a whole lotta people know this but I'm originally from Pittsburgh. I spent the last 23 years in Texas though, so I've adopted that state as my home. I'm currently living in exile in Kansas. My wife and I are expecting a baby in July and I'm rigging things so that we'll be on vacation in Texas when she delivers, that way the baby will have a proper home state. Don't underestimate the power of starting off with a proper birthplace.

Anyway I kinda fell haphazardly into the whole oven restoration thing. My story's on here somewhere or maybe the virtual convention center. It's been a fun hobby though and I might do more. I find working with the old technology to be quite relaxing.

I'm on business in the Boston area from time to time and always enjoy to visit RI and CT. Surprised how much wooded area there is down there. I'd figure they'd have long since paved the whole place by now.

I am in Rochester, NY and am lucky to have a husband who is very very good with most things mechanical. He has done most of the work on the stove to get it up and running. As a matter of fact, as I write this, I have an apple pie cooking in the oven! I am so freakin' psyched.
I actually tracked down a pot for the thermowell. Too late, though, the owner donated it to a museum here in Rochester. I have to check it out, apparently they have an old kitchen displayed in it. She bought it at a flea market so come spring, I know what I will be doing on weekends.
Western New York must not have been a place that these were in wide use.
